Michael Walzer velja za enega od vodilnih ameriških političnih filozofov in javnih intelektualcev. Je avtor ter urednik več knjig, npr.: Just and Unjust Wars (1977), Spheres of Justice (1983), On Toleration (1997), Thick and Thin: Moral Argument at Home and Abroad (1994), Politics and Passion: Toward a More Egalitarian Liberalism (2001), A Foreign Policy for the Left (2018), The Struggle for a Decent Politics (2023). V svojih knjigah, člankih ter intervjujih obravnava nekatere od najpomembnejših vsebinskih tem moralne in politične filozofije. Poleg svoje akademske kariere je bil tudi sourednik revije Dissent ter sodelavec uredništva revije The New Republic.
